House Mice

Appearance

2.5” to 3.5” with a tail, they weight about 1/2oz to 1oz. typically gray, turning to white on its underside.

Habitat

Mice are explorers. The will travel around attempting to find new food. When new construction is done, they will inhibit the structure. Their nesting sites are usually dark, making attics a common infestation area.

How do they affect you?

Mice can spread many diseases such as salmonella, tapeworm, and fevers. The disease is spread through their droppings left behind.

What can we do?

It is imperative that you seal up all possible entrance points on the outside of your home. Good sanitation practices must be implemented. Mice are a common pest that we get calls for, especially in winter months. Mice are covered under our Seitz Brothers Pest Control Home Protection Plan.

 


 

Rats

Appearance

7” to 9 ½” with their tail being 6” to 8” brown in color with some black hairs.

Habitat

Rats are nocturnal. They don’t like change very much, so they are hesitant to enter new home and additions to homes. They usually nest in basements, and will feed on meat, fish, and cereal.

How do they affect you?

Rats can carry many diseases such as leptospirosis, trichinosis and salmonella. They also can cause damage to your home.

What can we do?

Voles

Appearance

Adult voles, depending on the species, are three to seven inches long. Most vole species have rootless molars that fold into a series of triangles. Voles are one of the few rodents whose molars continue to grow during their entire life. There is little to distinguish a vole from a lemming.

Habitat

Voles live in a variety of environments. The North American Meadow Vole lives in networks of above-ground “runways” in grassy areas, as well as underground burrows.

How do they affect you?

They will feed off the roots of your grass causing the grass to die.

What can we do?

Vole control, especially on large acreages, can be a serious challenge. While total vole control may not be possible, you should be able to keep the numbers down to a level that is tolerable through rodent baiting efforts. Voles are covered under our Seitz Brothers Pest Control Home Protection Plan.
