Seitz Brothers History
The history of Seitz Brothers Exterminating, began with Edward and Kathryn (Kitty) Seitz. They married in 1973 and moved in 1975 from Philadelphia, north to start their family in a quiet low key town of Mahanoy City.
This is where people would stop to say hello and where the newspaper money was left on the front steps for the paper delivery to pick up. They started Seitz Brothers Exterminating Company, in July 1975 in this little town of Mahanoy City. Edward had some experience in pest control and saw the opportunity to step into the industry. Edward would drive the school bus in town and service customers in between the morning and afternoon school pick ups.
The name Seitz Brothers had no reason other then Edward has two brothers who were never involved in the business. So, then why Seitz Brothers? In 1976 and 1978 the Seitz’s were blessed with two sons Jason and Brian. How coincidental (or as they would say, fate) they had two boys, brothers.
In 1976 they moved to Locust Valley in Barnesville were they had the office in their home until the children went off to school. In the 1980’s an office was opened on Route 54 in Barnesville in the old Marshall’s Country Store location. By this time Edward was very busy doing pest control that he was late picking up the children from school. So, it was during this time that they had to make a choice of driving the school bus or full time pest control. Edward and Kathryn decided to make Seitz Brothers their full time job. The business flourished throughout the years bringing employment to the area. For Edward, Kathryn and their boys Schuykill County was there home.
They had offered the opportunity for their children to step into the company after high school with both Jason and Brian accepting that offer. Jason and Brian full with ideas and zest opened an office in Trexlertown in the Allentown area
Kylie Seitz (Brian’s wife) runs the Trexlertown office today. In 2004 they again opened another office in Tannersville, which is run by James Hearity who was Brian’s best friend in high school and promised that one day they would work together. Brian Seitz has since bought out his brother Jason. Edward and Kathryn have since retired from pest control.
Today, Seitz Bros. Corporate office is located on Route 309 in Tamaqua, PA managed by Lorraine Schock who has been with the company since 1993. After starting the company with just two people, Seitz Bros. staff has grown to over fifty employees serving the counties of Monroe, Pike, Berks, Bucks, Luzerne, Carbon, Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Lycoming, Montgomery, Northampton, Schuykill, Snyder,
Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming, recently extending into western New Jersey.
At Seitz Brothers, the staff is much like an extended family to Kitty and Ed Seitz; committed to the same values they started their business with. The company provides their employees with ongoing training and up to date knowledge in the business to better serve their customers. Seitz Brothers encourages a positive work atmosphere, which does not have to strive to be the best in the business, for there is no comparison.
